Is a kayak or paddle board setup cheaper?
At the beginner tier they are close: the kayak list is $257.40 for two people and the paddle board list $213.96 for one. Per person the kayak is cheaper, because one two-person inflatable carries both paddlers.
Why two ladders instead of one?
A kayak kit is built around the boat's weight capacity and a paddle sized to its width; a paddle board kit is built around board volume, a leash and a stand up paddle sized to your height. The advice inverts in places, so each gets its own list.
On the water: Wear a properly fitted, USCG-approved life jacket every time, dress for the water temperature rather than the air, and check your state and local paddling regulations before you launch.
